Charities, professional bodies and unions all know that one of the most direct forms of communication to their members is through a printed publication, posted directly to their homes or workplaces.

Case study: Scotland in Trust

In 2002, the National Trust for Scotland (Scotland’s largest charity) asked CMYK to come up with a radical new look for their existing 48 page A4 quarterly membership magazine, History Scotland.

We looked at the frequency, format, paper stock and even the name. Budget was important too – the Trust needed the advertising revenue to be consistent to help with production costs.

We developed the title into a perfect bound, 76 page, American A4 magazine to come out three times a year, called Scotland in Trust. Working closely with the Trust, we provide editorial, design and advertising services across the title.

The combination of all three disciplines under one roof pays dividends. Scotland in Trust has been nominated for membership magazine of the year at the PPA Scotland Magazine Awards, every single year, and won the award in 2003, 2005 and 2009.

In 2012, as part of our continued support for the Trust's evolving needs, we have refreshed the design of Scotland in Trust to incorporate more white space, improved typography and a simplified structure. All of this goes towards making the magazine more accessible to new members and an easier, more enjoyable read for those who already know and love the title.

Building long-term relationships is a key part of how we do business and Scotland in Trust is a great example of how this approach can benefit everyone involved.
